Vintage Longines Automatic King Hussein of Jordan Royal Presentation Watch Ref. 1626 – 33.2mm

A fascinating and highly distinctive vintage Longines Automatic Ref. 1626, featuring a special Jordanian royal presentation dial associated with King Hussein of Jordan.

The champagne/gold-tone dial features the Longines name and winged hourglass emblem, automatic designation and a date aperture at 3 o'clock. Most notably, positioned beneath 12 o'clock is a royal crown and Arabic royal signature, giving this particular Longines considerably more historical interest than a standard Ref. 1626.

Watches bearing royal insignia such as this were commissioned as presentation pieces and gifts, although without accompanying provenance we cannot establish the identity of the original recipient or claim that the watch was personally owned by King Hussein.

The watch is powered by an automatic mechanical movement, with the dial marked “990 SWISS 1626” at 6 o'clock. The case back is stamped “STAINLESS STEEL BACK” and carries the number 21751715.

Measuring 33.2mm excluding the crown and 35.2mm including the crown, it has the elegant proportions associated with vintage Longines watches of the period. It has now been fitted with a new black leather strap, which complements the gold-tone case and champagne dial beautifully.
